Sponsored by the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation Lectureship. Dr. Patrice D. Douglass is Assistant Professor of Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies at Duke University. Her research interests include black feminist theory, the legal archive of slavery, political theory, and gender theory. Her current manuscript, Engendering Blackness: The Political Ontology of Sexual Violence, interrogates the history of sexual violence under slavery and its relationship to how Blackness is defined, reconstituted, and engendered by this unresolved history.
